Description:Spalding brand 8-Spoke leather football helmet c.1910s. Well preserved early head harness style helmet is comprised of (8) "spokes" which emanated from an octagonal piece of leather on the top. At the center is a faint but well defined "Spalding" mark. Front center spoke is marked with "J" model number and is affixed to a leather band which rings the helmet. This band serves as anchor point for the other spokes and ear and neck flaps. Use and some general age related wear are evident throughout however the helmet is well preserved overall. Interior padding is intact and the chinstrap is present (eyelet through which the chinstrap passes at bottom of the left earflap is torn): VG-EX
