Description: Rare "Calamity" - Football mechanical bank c.1904, with period advertising sheet. Football themed mechanical bank features a trio of uniformed players which spring to action when a button is depressed. The middle figure holds a football and is tackled by defensemen on either side. Patinated surfaces retain small portions of the original paint and the bank is functional. Unmarked but known to have been made by J. & E. Stevens and includes a period 5"x9" paper stock advertising sheet (which may be a page removed for a catalog). Stevens made a series of mechanical banks in the period which include some of the more desirable within that niche of collecting. The Calamity bank is one of the rarest (this being the first example we have auctioned) and most desirable sports themed banks within that genre of collecting.Estimated Price Range: ($5,000-$10,000)
