Lot Number: 112

Description: 1914 All-American and All-Nationals All-Star Teams signed leather pouch with exceedingly rare Ray Chapman. Rare relic originates from a pair of teams which were assembled to tour (11) states and Hawaii and featured some of the most notable players of the period. A hand selected group of National League All-Stars played a series of games against a similar group culled from the rival American League. The Sporting News reported that "the rivalry between the two teams is as great as shown by any teams that have ever faced each other in World Series play." Draw string leather pouch (approx. 7"x8" at extremes) has been signed on both the front and back by (27) participants and related information was written on in unknown hand. Among the most notable autographs is that of Ray Champman, an exceedingly rare signature and one of only a few authentic examples we have seen or offered. Chapman is tragically the only player to have died due to an injury sustained on field during a Major League game. Others include G.C. Alexander, Max Carey, Robert Byrne, Frank Bancroft, Lute Boone, Tom Clarke, Cozy Dolan, Art Fletcher, Fred Snodgrass, Bill Killefer, Joe Buch, Dick Hoblitzell, Bill James, Stuffy McInnis, Jim McAvoy, George Moriarity, Ira Thomas, John D. Shibe, and others. All are done in period fountain pen and generally rate 7 out of 10 or better. Pouch displays a hint of light wear and a few minor scattered flaws. Includes full LOA from JSA: VG-NM
