Description: Very fine 1991-92 Charles Barkley autographed Philadelphia 76ers professional model jersey and shorts (#32 Magic Johnson Tribute)(MeiGray Photomatch). Red mesh jersey with screened on Sixers insignia across the front above white/blue “32” in tackle twill with “Barkley” lettering on back above matching “32”. Appropriate Champion/76ers Exclusive tagging affixed to the tail front with size “50” and “Body Length +2” indicators. Memorial black armband found attached to left shoulder area. Matching shorts retain “Champion/76ers Exclusive” tagging with “Inseam +2 Rose +1” indicators along with “32” written in vintage black marker. Both jersey and shorts exhibit strong evident use inclusive of ‘puckering’ to tagging/numerals. Signed by Barkley across the front in black sharpie. Important jersey in that Barkley had elected to wear #32 in honor of Magic Johnson during the season in which he declared that he was HIV positive. Although the #32 was retired by the 76ers (Billy Cunningham) permission was granted for Barkley to wear the number during that season as a show of support for Magic Johnson. The jersey has been photomatched by MeiGray to the following games: 1/2/1992 vs. Kings (Barkley scored 31pts); 1/5/1992 vs. Trail Blazers (Barkley scored 21pts); and another image showing Barkley playing NY Knicks in New York either on 1/23/1991 or 4/10/1992. Originally obtained by a collector who received items directly from players and team employees in the period.
