Description: Large baseball player figural statue c.1910. Rare early figural piece stands a full 21" tall showing a catcher in uniform with chest protector and mitt on hand. On the rear of the base is an impressed "American Manfg Co Phila PA" mark with copyright date above that is hard to decipher but likely reads "1907." Additional marks on the piece include the letter "B" and number "502." Cast plaster with a metal surface overlay that has flaked off along a large portion of the base (top surface) and to a lesser degree in another area or two that are largely not visible when on display. In addition, it has split along the interior sides of the legs. One of the largest and most visually imposing display pieces of this type we have seen from the period and the only example we have ever offered: VG-EX with note to description
