Lot Number: 270a

Description: c.1961-68 Chicago Bears professional model road jersey with possible attribution to Mike Ditka. White dureen jersey with long sleeves that have blue and orange accent stripes. Player number "89" appears on front, back, and shoulders. "King O'Shea" tag is in the rear tail noting size (50). Outstanding use/wear evident throughout including some stains/discoloration and there is a small team repair on one shoulder. Based on the style characteristics of both the jersey and tagging it can be dated to the 1961-68 time period. During this span the number "89" was worn by Mike Ditka (1961-66), Terry Stoepel (1967), and Bob Wallace (1968). While it stands to reason that any one of these three players could have used the jersey the probability (given his extended time wearing number 89 from 1961-66) suggests that it is most likely the jersey was issued to Ditka. The Bears selected Ditka fifth overall in the 1961 NFL Draft and he made an immediate impact earning Rookie of The Year honors. He was a member of their 1963 Championship team. His playing career would stretch until 1972 and thereafter he embarked on a Coaching career which started in Dallas before a shift back to the Chicago Bears where he was named Head Coach in 1982. In 1985 he lead one of the most storied teams of the modern era to a Super Bowl Championship. Includes LOA from MEARS (with "Authentic" final grade and the letter noting a possible attribution to Ditka): EX
