Description: Vintage Pittsburgh Steelers attributed helmet c.1960-63. Riddell RK-4 Kra-Lite helmet with suspension style interior represents a top of line model produced in the late 1950s and early 60s that was used by many professional teams. It has been finished in yellow with a black stripe accent running down the center. On the left side is a discolored circle where a decal used to be affixed. As relayed by our consignor it originates from the collection of Chiodos Tavern which used to stand in Homestead, PA and was a popular stop among locals and notables. It was obtained at auction when the Tavern closed and at the time the winner (our consignor) was approached by Chiodo who informed him that it was given to him by his friend Preston Carpenter who played for the Steelers from 1960-63. It appears to hang from the ceiling of the Tavern in a picture of Chiodo inside the establishment. While it can not be stated with certainty that is was issued by and/or used by Steelers both the coloration and background certainly offer strong support.
