Description: Important Tommy Heinsohn 1964-65 Boston Celtics NBA Championship trophy. Visually imposing figural trophy (16" tall) features a full sized silver plated basketball positioned atop wooden square base. Silverplated placard on the front has an enamelwork shamrock logo at the top along with "Boston Celtics" team name. Text below reads "National Basketball Association World Champions 1964-65, Tom Heinsohn." At each front corner stands a player figural with one of these being a replacement. The awarding of championship jewelry has been a long standing custom in American sports culture however presentational pieces of this type and quality are most often reserved for the team and ownership. The offered represents one of the more important and desirable to have ever reached the marketplace with the only comparable example being a slightly more ornate version which we offered in December of 2021 as part of the Bill Russell Collection. The Boston Celtics entered the 1964-65 season having won six consecutive NBA titles beginning in 1958-59. Although it would be hard to improve on their dominance, history clearly illustrates that they were able to find a path to same. The team finished the 1964-65 season with a record of 62-18 (.775 win percentage) to capture the NBA Eastern Conference crown. They went on to trounce the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals by a tally of four games to one. Includes period photograph of Heinsohn holding two similar trophies and letter of provenance from the Heinsohn Family: EX/MT with note to description
