Description: John Hannah autographed professional model Pro-Bowl helmet c.1977 (first Pro Bowl). Original helmet issued to John Hannah as a member of the AFC Pro-Bowl team. In total, Hannah was a (9) time Pro-Bowl selection with his first appearance coming after the 1976 season. Riddell helmet with period interior padding has a number of labels inside including “Pac-3” model, size “6 7/8”, and “NOC SAE.” A piece of vintage tape has the name “Hannah” written on in ink and the name appears a second time directly on the interior shell in marker (this notation may be more recent). The date clock inside notes 1975 as the year of manufacture, and the AFC logo is on the helmet rather than the Patriots logo, thus we can conclude that this is the helmet issued for his 1/17/1977 appearance (team logos were on the helmets beginning with the 1979 Pro Bowl following the 1978 season). Strong use/wear, including deep scuffs and scrapes, suggest that it was worn during more than just a Pro-Bowl appearance or two and the red color has been touched up in at least (2) places. Signed John Hannah HOF 91” in marker rating 9/10 out of 10. Helmets rank among the more desirable pieces of game equipment and are seldom offered with such iron clad and direct provenance.
