Lot Number: 93

Description: 1978 Willie Stargell autographed Pittsburgh Pirates professional model alternate jersey (SGC/Grob: "Superior"). Classic style has "Pirates" team name across the front with number "8" below. Number also appears on back. In the collar is a Wilson tag noting size (48). Embroidered strip tag on the front tail reads "8 78" denoting player and year. Signed on the front in marker rating 8 out of 10. Appropriate use and wash wear are evident throughout and there is some minor scattered soiling/spotting. "Pops" lead the Pirates through the tumultuous 1978 season when they came back from an (11.5) game deficit to challenge the Phillies for the NL East. Although their year would end short of the NL pennant Stargell is said to have called it his favorite season in the game. Pittsburgh would prove to be unstoppable in 1979 winning a World Series title. An exceptional Stargell gamer and one of the best from this time period we have handled. Includes auction LOA from JSA, letter of provenance, and LOAs from Hunt Auctions and SGC/Grob (graded "Superior"): EX
