Lot Number: 193

Description: 1917 Chicago White Sox "Velvet Tobacco" advertising display with Joe Jackson. Rare original store display sign done to promote tins of Velvet brand tobacco. A picture of the World Series Champion Chicago White Sox team serves as focal point and includes Joe Jackson, Eddie Collins, Ed Cicotte, Buck Weaver, Chic Gandil, Hap Felsch, Ray Schalk, and Buck Weaver. A small testimonial box boasting that Velvet will "improve both your work and your smoke" is signed in print "Velvet Joe" which is likely intended to suggest the statement comes from Joe Jackson. Displays well in 21.5"x28.25" frame however it should be noted that there is heavy wear throughout including creases, wrinkles, chipping, a tear or two, and some toning/discoloration. While initially described as having been mounted our consignor, who framed the piece himself, has relayed that it is not mounted and was left in it's original state. Notably rare with this being the only example we have seen: see description
