Description: 1913 Bob Shawkey Philadelphia Athletics World Championship pocket watch. Fine quality pocketwatch manufactured by the Howard Watch Co. of Boston features an impressed floral wreath decoration on the back with "1913 World's Champions" text. The back opens to reveal a makers' mark and "Robert Shawkey" recipients name. An additional "14K" stamp is found inside the casing. Shawkey was a Rookie in 1913 joining Hall of Famers Eddie Plank and Herb Pennock on a power packed Philadelphia lineup which flourish under the leadership of Connie Mack. He would appear in (18) games that season before bumping to the role of a more full time starter the following year. His career thrived in later seasons and he is best remembered for his time with the New York Yankees during their dominant run of the 1920s. The 1913 World Series once again brought the rival Athletics and Giants together. after having previously battled for the title in 1905 and 1911 with each team capturing one championship. The 1913 Series was anticipated to be one of the most hotly contested since the game's inception in 1903. Ultimately the A's bested the Giants in five games to take the World Series "rubber match". In fine overall condition with just a touch of light exterior wear. Ticks when would however it is likely that some fine tuning would need be done to restore full working order and when previously offered at auction in 2014 it was noted the front casing has been replaced: EX with note to description
