Black fountain pen signature displays in very fine condition rating 8 out of 10. Connolly served as an umpire in the National League from 1898 to 1900 and then for an amazing tenure of 31 years in the American League from 1901 to 1931. He emigrated to America from England in 1885 and took his knowledge from the game of cricket to apply to its cousin, baseball. Throughout his career Tommy Connolly was regarded as the most knowledgeable umpire in the game setting the standards for those who followed. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953 and passed away at the age of 90 in his hometown of Natick, MA. Single signature examples of Connolly baseballs are simply non existent to which we are only able to confirm only two others in addition to the offered specimen.
