Description: Rare 1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy #147 Babe Ruth (Newly discovered example)(PSA 2.5 GD+) Noted rarity was recently discovered within a "High School Days" memory book where it had been stored from shortly after the time of issue. It was given to a young Glenwood, Iowa woman, Lillian Pearl Glenn, after a date with her future husband and she placed it within the scrapbook which chronicled much of her early life and teenage years. After marrying in 1928, Lillian passed away in a tragic accident in 1941 at which point the book remained with her husband until his passing in 1978. At a 1978 auction of his personal effects a family member of Lillian purchased the book, with Ruth card intact, for around "Five to seven dollars". The card was secured in place with mounting corners, allowing for easy removal, and retains exceptional eye appeal. Centering is nearly perfect with sharp corners and uncommonly minimal surface wear due to glossy finish on this tough issue. The technical grade is due to several surface wrinkles which appear on the lower front and are visible only upon close examination or proper reflection of light. Its visual eye appeal presents at a 7 or 8 level without apology. While all Collins-McCarthy Ruth cards can be considered rare this "Blank Back" variety is especially so with only three total that have been graded by PSA (of these one received an "Authentic" designation - rather than number grade). An exceptional value relative to assigned grade and a rare offering of one of Ruth's earliest cards A modern copy of the "High School Days" book will be included with the card (original retained by the family): PSA Good+ 2.5
