Description: Magnificent 1911 Turkish Trophies advertising display with Ty Cobb L1 Leather. Point of sale advertising display piece remains one of the most desirable ever produced in the field of tobacco and baseball card collecting with the offered example housing only baseball subjects. The 16.5"x33" original frame has "Turkish Trophies" titling impressed along the top edge and the center panel promotes that these are "Some of the many designs on leather, satin and card mounts given for gift slips packed" with their product. Helmar and Turkey Red both offered, on redemption of coupons packaged with their product, some of the most ornate and well produced oversized premiums of the period. While the baseball subjects are the most desirable in present day, other themes were available and when found these displays typically contain a mix of all. As is common, this display currently presents with the original frame and components intact and now hosting a rare Ty Cobb L1 leather, Joe Tinker T3 Turkey Red cabinet card, and a Christy Mathewson S81 silk. Both the cabinet card and silk are held in place by mounting corners and display at EX or better level however complete condition is unknown. The Cobb leather has EX/MT-NM appearance with no visible wear however we are unaware of the method by which it is secured in place. By any measure, the Ty Cobb L1 leather is certainly one of the strongest condition examples we have encountered with superb eye appeal. A rare offering of a high grade original display (touch of light scattered wear with some toning and wear to paper portions which are affixed below the Cobb leather) with strong condition examples of a trio of noted Hall of Famer premium highlighted by a notoriously scarce Ty Cobb leather.
