Description: 1958 George Shaw Baltimore Colts World Championship ring (Greatest Game Ever Played Season). The story of the 1958 NFL season is well written and ranks among the most significant in the history of the league. The 1958 Baltimore Colts World Championship team defeated the New York Giants in dramatic fashion with an Alan Ameche touchdown run in sudden death overtime. The epic contest became known as the "Greatest Game Ever Played" and it's legendary status was due in no small part to the fact the game was nationally televised leading to a surge in popularity of the NFL overall. Ornate 14K gold ring features the Colts mascot logo on each side panel within a horseshoe symbol having, "World Champions" and "Colts 23 Giants 17", respectively. Top of the ring has, "Baltimore Colts World Champions" with two small inset blue sapphires encircling a customized "G" monogrammed onto an inset medallion piece. The inset medallion was retrofitted by Shaw after removing its original diamond. Interior ring band inscribed, "14K LGB" along with "George H. Shaw #14", size 9 1/2. Scant few (estimated to be 4 to 6 total) of the original 1958 Colts championship rings have been offered to the collecting public. Includes letter of provenance from the Shaw family: EX-MT
