Description: Exceptional 1959 Willie Mays autographed San Francisco Giants professional model road jersey (SGC/Grob: Superior)(Mays Letter). Gray flannel jersey has "San Francisco" team name across the front and number "24" on back. "Spalding" tag appears in the collar with adjacent size tag ("42"). Chain stitched in the front tail is "Mays 59 42" denoting player, year, and size. Wash tag on the inside front tail has adjacent "Set 1 1959" flag tag. Signed on the upper left chest in marker rating 7 out of 10. The jersey displays ideal evidence of use and wash wear most visibly to the lettering on front and "24" on back both of which display uniform 'puckering' and light age fading. Grey flannel shows appropriate age fading with beautiful overall appearance. Mays enjoyed yet another NL All-Star season in 1959 batting .313 with 34 home runs and finishing sixth in the NL MVP voting. The offered jersey includes a typewritten letter on decorative copy of San Francisco Giants which has been signed at the bottom by Mays in black sharpie (signature slightly faded from display). As time passes, baseball historians continue to evaluate and compare various star players with regard to their career ranking.
