Lot Number: 197

Description: Rare Hank Greenberg professional model baseball bat c.1930-31 (PSA "GU 8"). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with "Greenberg" block lettered in the barrel measures 35" long and weighs 34oz. Uncracked with visible use including ball/contact marks on the upper hitting surface. Greenberg appeared in (1) game for the Detroit Tigers in 1930 and spent the remainder of that season, and all of the next, playing with a total of (4) different Minor League teams moving his way through the system. The following year, 1932, he was named MVP of the Texas League. He rejoined the Tigers in 1933 and would remain a fixture in their lineup until 1946 with a handful of seasons in between lost due to his service in World War II. In that time he lead Detroit to a pair of World Series Championships (1935 and 1945), lead the American League in homeruns (4) times, and was twice named its' Most Valuable Player. He is widely considered the first highly visible Jewish superstar in American team sports and served as a role model for a generation of young athletes. Seldom offered with this being one of only a handful of Greenberg pro model bats to have entered the marketplace and as noted on the included PSA documentation it surely represents one of the first made for his use. Includes LOAs from PSA/DNA (graded "GU 8") and Hunt Auctions: EX
