Description: Significant 1987 Phil Simms New York Giants professional model jersey with apparent photo match to Super Bowl XXI (MeiGray). Blue mesh jersey has number "11" screened on front, back, and sleeves and there is a "Simms" nameplate across the back. "Spider 43" on left front chest was worn in honor of Carl "Spider" Lockhart whom had recently passed. MacGregor Sand-Knit "Designed & Tailored Exclusively..." and size "44" tags are on the left front tail along with an "86" printed year tag and the wash tag is inside. Usage and wash wear evident throughout. Pick by New York in the first round of the 1979 NFL Draft, Simms joined the team as their regular quarterback and won his first (6) games that season finishing second in Rookie of The Year voting. On January 25, 1987 the Giants and Denver Broncos squared off in Super Bowl XXI and in the biggest game of his career Simms did not disappoint putting up what is arguably one of the greatest performances in history. "This might be the best game a quarterback has ever played" said coach Bill Parcells after Simms completed (22) of (25) passes (3 of which were touchdown passes) for (268) yards and set Super Bowl records for consecutive completions (10), accuracy (88%), and passer rating (150.9). Included documentation from The MeiGray Group succinctly attributes the jersey to that very Super Bowl game with an apparent photo match showing that the mesh holes (relative to screened on identifiers) conclusively align. It has been relayed that the jersey was formerly on display at the New York Giants Legacy Club at MetLife Stadium and at some point around that time a dutiful clubhouse employee, in efforts to satisfy an autograph seeker, applied a secretarial (non-authentic) personalized signature to the front numerals (a portion of which has since been removed with some resulting discoloration). An immensely important offering related to one of the premier quarterbacks and franchises on the 20th Century. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and aforementioned MeiGray paperwork: EX
