Lot Number: 524

Description: Important 1947 Jackie Robinson rookie photograph (PSA/DNA "Type III"). Iconic image was taken just after the Dodgers made their formal announcement that Jackie Robinson had been signed to a Major League contract. Shortly before a Dodgers and Montreal Royals exhibition game Robinson appeared at the Dodgers locker room door, turned to wave at the cameras, and entered to change into his Brooklyn uniform. Trimmed to size of 6"x8" the photo was made from a duplicate negative that featured two images, side by side (In Montreal then Brooklyn uniforms), and was once part of a larger composite image. Partial "International News" stamp is visible on the back along with an "Apr 1947" date stamp and several other marks/notations. Mild wear primarily effects the corners and edges and there is a touch of scattered toning/discoloration. In any form, an incredibly rare and important image relating to Robinson's historic breaking of the color barrier in Major League Baseball. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA (graded "Type III"): VG with note to description
