Lot Number: 220

Description: 1958 Willie Mays San Francisco Giants professional model home jersey (SGC/Grob: Fair). Important home jersey as issued to Willie Mays for use during the Giants Inaugural season on the West Coast. Mays won his second consecutive Gold Glove in 1958 (he would earn 11 in total) and hit a career high (.347) with (29) homeruns. The offered is one of a scant few Mays jerseys which we have handled in our 28 year company history and it is a rare survivor from the Giants first season in San Francisco. Cream colored flannel jersey has "Giants" team name across the front and number "24" on back. On the left front tail is a "Tim McAuliffe" label and size (42) tag. Chain stitch embroidered below is "Mays 58." Use and some general age/storage related wear are evident throughout and there is a large "L" shaped tear on the back which has been repaired. Mild scattered toning and/or spotting/discoloration and some other minor flaws throughout. In addition, there is some loss/separation to the number "24" on back and a name is written in the collar in faded black marker. Originally sourced through a former Giants Minor League player whom relays in an included letter of provenance that the tear occurred when Mays was fielding a fly ball. Includes aforementioned letter of provenance and LOA from SGC/Grob (Fair): VG-EX
