Description: 1944 Grover Alexander autographed letter with outstanding "Greatest Thrill" content. January 18, 1944 dated handwritten letter reads in part, "Friend Richard+my Greatest thrill was in striking out Tony Lazzeri in the final game and to win the Series by so doing, lots of good luck to you, Grover C. Alexander." The strikeout referenced came in Game (7) of the 1926 World Series when the venerable Alexander was brought in by Manager Rogers Hornsby to relieve Jesse Haines after having pitched a complete game win the day before. The Yankees were trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th and Lazzeri was at the plate with bases loaded. Alexander masterfully handled the at bat which is forever immortalized on his Hall of Fame plaque which ends by stating "Won 1926 World Championship for Cardinals by striking out Lazzeri with bases full in final crisis at Yankee Stadium." Signature and handwriting rate 8 to 8/9 out of 10 and there is a touch of light toning and a pair of horizontal folds visible. Framed to 18.5"x23" for display. Includes full LOA from JSA: EX/MT-NM
