Description: Rare 1977 Mike Schmidt Gold Glove award. Mike Schmidt was bestowed with the pinnacle of defensive accolades, the Rawlings Gold Glove Award, for ten National League seasons as a third baseman. The offered award dates to the 1977 season which was just the second awarded of his career. The award itself measuring an imposing 16" tall by 18" long. Wooden plinth style trophy base features applied brass placards with image of Schmidt and titling having crossed gilt metal supports holding two gold painted baseballs. Trademark Rawlings gold painted "Major League All-Star Fielding Team" model fielder's glove resides in the center. The award remains in superlative original condition with minimal age or surface wear. One small Rawlings enamelwork emblem at the bottom right is missing/replaced. Mike Schmidt remains to date one of the greatest fielding third baseman in the history of the game. The offered award represents a significant opportunity to acquire a related artifact from one of game's all time greats and a Philadelphia icon.
