Lot Number: 350

Description: Outstanding Bob Lemon Cleveland Indians professional model home jersey 1948. Cream colored flannel jersey with "Indians" team name across the front has number "21" on back. On the left sleeve is an original logo patch. Wilson tag appears in the collar with adjacent size "42" flag tag. Below is a "Lemon" embroidered strip tag. The jersey remains in outstanding overall condition with a touch of appropriate use and age related wear. It was obtained by our consignor from the Lemon Family in the 1970s and it has remained in his collection until this offering. At the time it was relayed that it dated to 1948 specifically (this style was employed by the team from 1947-49). Lemon was an anchor of the Indians much lauded pitching staff and helped lead the team to their first World Series Championship in over (25) years. In just his third Major League season, 1948, he posted the first of an eventual (7) seasons in which he won (20) or more games. An exceedingly rare jersey being one of perhaps (3) to have surfaced and further distinguished with an attribution to one of the Indians most historically significant seasons. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
