Lot Number: 121

Description: Incredible 1941-43 Babe Ruth personal check register including autographs and unsigned checks. Oversized hard bound check book as issued by "Chemical Bank & Trust" of New York was used by Babe Ruth in the early 1940s. Inside are check stubs on which Ruth has handwritten the name of the payee for approximately (242) checks (some additional are filled out by his wife Claire or in unknown hand). There is (1) which is signed "G.H. Ruth" (for a check he had written to himself) and (43) are filled out in his hand to Claire Ruth essentially constituting a last name signature in each instance. Others payees include cash (multiple), (2) American League Baseball Club (the Yankees), American League, (3) A.G. Spalding, North Hills Golf Club, Cartier, Internal Revenue (IRS), and others. Claire herself filled out approximately (10) stubs writing her first and last name. All are done in fountain pen and generally rate between 8 to 10 out of 10. In addition, there are (135) blank unused checks (all of which have the name "Babe Ruth" printed on). The register itself has expected mild handling wear and there are some additional notations written by Ruth on the first inside page. The significance of such a substantive archive from a figure as prominent as Babe Ruth is very difficult to quantify in words. The desirability of the intact cache is only equaled by the immense breakdown value if separated into individual piece items. Unparalleled investment and collecting opportunity. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA and letter of provenance from the Ruth Family: EX-NM
