Description: 1944 Mel Ott War Bond Contest presentational scroll with dignitary autographs incl. Babe Ruth and Tim Mara. Oversized approx. 18"x24" piece is done completely by hand including all text, decorative accents, and the Mel Ott portrait at center. Titled "War Bond Popularity Contest" at the top with content below relaying that Ott had been voted the favorite athlete of New York sports fans and thus contributed greatly to the sales of War Bonds. It has been signed within the lower third by (48) participants in the contest and/or related events including Babe Ruth, exceedingly rare Football Hall of Famer Tim Mara, Ford Frick, boxers Jack Dempsey and Barney Ross, Willard Mullin, Grantland Rice, Carl Hubbell, Eleanor Gehrig, and others. The majority are done in jet black India ink and rate 8 to 9/10 out of 10 with others, in fountain pen, having faded to approx. 2/3 to 5/6 out of 10. Housed in 20.25"x25.5" frame with light visible toning and wear along with some rippling to the thin paper stock. Includes 7"x9" sepia toned photo of Ott receiving the scroll on field, full LOA from JSA, and letter of provenance from the Ott Family: Scroll EX, Sigs. GD-NM
