Description: 1960 Roberto Clemente presentational trophy (World Championship Season). Large figural trophy presented to Clemente shortly after capturing the 1960 World Championship with the Pittsburgh Pirates by the people of Carolina, Puerto Rico. Geometrical walnut wooden structural base with inset copper lining having Greek winged figural at center and two handled loving cup at top with figural batter. Applied brass placard on the base is inscribed (in Spanish), “To Roberto Clemente In recognition of his work inside and outside the diamond-The People of Carolina October 1960”. Minor surface wear in some areas of the finish. The wooden structure has some flaking to back of the base and the brass figural pieces have some replating to the gilt. Small portion of the bat is missing from top finial. Impressive figural trophy dating to the 1960 Championship season. Includes letter of provenance from the Clemente family: VG-EX
