Description: Superb 1964 Roberto Clemente presentational trophy. Large figural trophy stands 33" in height as presented to Clemente on December 30, 1964 featuring a large silver-plated two handled loving cup with figural batsman finial. Black painted wooden plinth style base has inscribed silver-plated placard affixed which reads (in Spanish), "To Roberto Clemente: Pride of Puerto Rico In recognition of his brilliant execution on the diamonds of baseball and his undeniable services to the cause of sport in general". Trophy presents beautifully with original patination intact and substantive craftsmanship evident throughout. Black wooden painted base has some typical light to moderate surface wear with the affixed silver placard exhibiting age and some age crazing. This particular trophy occupied a place of prominence within the Clemente home as evidenced by the related image in the catalogue. Exceptional display piece with photographic provenance.
