Lot Number: 121

Description: April 5, 1931 Babe Ruth autographed barnstorming home run attributed baseball. Red and black stitched Rawlings "Official League" baseball has been signed across the sweetspot, "Babe Ruth" in fountain pen rating 6-6/7 out of 10. Written on side panels, in unknown hand, are "Vols. 5 Yanks. 14 4-5-31" and "H.R. Ruth. Hoag. Byrd. Stimp." These markings refer to a barnstorming game in which Ruth took part; played in Sulpher Dell Park in Nashville, TN just days after another famed game in which female pitcher Jackie Mitchell struck out both Ruth and Lou Gehrig. A typewritten history which accompanies the ball relays that it has been passed down as the ball which Ruth hit over the fence at Sulpher Dell. At a later date it was signed by Chuck Dressen and Bob Lennon who are both noted in Nashville baseball lore in their own right. Includes full LOA from JSA, print showing numerous articles/clippings related to game, book on Nashville sports history, and typewritten history/notes: Overall EX
