Description: August 22, 1926 Athletics vs. White Sox first Sunday game in Philadelphia history attributed baseball. Red and blue stitched Reach B.Johnson Official American League baseball has been lettered on a side panel in fountain pen "Athletics 3-2 Chicago" with "First Sunday Game: Shibe Park, Aug. 22d 1926, E.E.E." on the opposite. The "E.E.E." initials are those of Dr. Edward E. Ebling, the Philadelphia Athletics noted long time trainer whose descendants retained the ball until its offering by Hunt Auctions in 1997. Due to long standing "Blue Laws", professional sports had been prohibited in the Philly area dating back to the 18th Century however a ruling handed down from a Common Pleas Court Judge allowed for the game to take place. Arguments would reach the Pennsylvania State Court and it would take intervention from the State Legislature in 1933 to reverse the antiquated statutes.
