Description: Pittsburgh Pirates professional model hat attributed to Willie Stargell with highly coveted "Stargell Stars", c.1978-82. New Era Pro Model size 7-3/8 Pirates black with yellow stripes pillbox style hat which has four Stargell Stars applied around the "P" (first used in 1978). Stargell's widely used Roman numeral "VIII" is written under the brim denoting his uniform number "8" (in faded vintage marker, then enhanced in black marker). Stargell, Howard Cosell, and Bob Prince signatures are also under the brim, with Prince being deemed the only authentic autograph. Displays exceptional use, with sweat staining, as well as soiling under the brim. Very fine game hat dating to the era of Stargell's MVP and second World Series, which originated from a former Pirates groundskeeper.
