Description: 1979 Hilton Smith handwritten letter with outstanding content. March 9, 1979 dated two page handwritten letter to noted historian John Howlay has been signed "Hilton Smith" at the close. Exceptional content throughout relates to his career and includes mention of himself as the greatest pitcher in the Negro League from 1936 to 1947. In addition, he talks about Leon Day and asks about Roy Campanella and Monte Irvin. Notably rare in this format. Ink handwriting and signature rate 8 out of 10.
