Lot Number: 199

Description: Outstanding Eddie Mathews c.1950s professional model glove with handwritten Mathews letter of provenance. Rawlings Bob Dillinger model "BD" right handed fielder's glove has a vintage "41" written on the wrist strap alongside the manufacturer's label. Strong usage wear is evident throughout along with some general age wear. The lacing at tips of fingers has split with some resulting loss of material (this effecting only the leather lace, not the glove itself). It has been signed along the interior middle finger in marker now rating 7 out of 10. Exceedingly well documented having been given in the period to a Braves substitute bat boy whose father owned "Roy Jackson's House of Hits", an establishment in Milwaukee which was frequented by Braves players. The boy, Jim Jackson, can be seen in an accompanying photo (modern printout) in his Braves uniform alongside Mathews and Hank Aaron. A signed letter of provenance from Jackson relays that Mathews handed him the glove at a 1962 function and an additional handwritten note reads, "This was the glove I used, Eddie Mathews." A rare opportunity with such exceptionally well documented pieces seldom coming to market. Includes full LOA from JSA, Kinunen/Bushing signed SCD Authentic LOA, above mentioned letter of provenance/picture/Mathews note, and LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
