Description: Significant 1998 Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres National League Championship ring. The 1998 World Series marked the second appearance in a Fall Classic for the San Diego Padres franchise. It was also the final postseason appearance for Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn whose storied career would end just two years later. Not surprisingly, Gwynn performed at an elite level batting .500 for the World Series in a losing effort to the powerful New York Yankees 1990s era dynasty team. Presented is Tony Gwynn's original 1998 World Series ring with interlocked "SD" lettering having (29) inlaid diamonds on a blue color stone inset. "Padres National League Champions" lettering encircles the top of the ring perimeter. One side panel displays, "Gwynn 19" along with image of NL Championship trophy with the other side panel having "1998" dating above Padres team insignia. Marked with proper Jostens 10K hallmark on interior ring band. Overall condition is superb with minimal surface wear. Includes its original custom made mahogany box having carved titling on lid denoting the Padres 1998 NL Championship. In concert with the presentation of Tony Gwynn's 1984 Padres NL Championship ring within this auction a similar ranking of significance may be assigned to the offered 1998 NL Championship ring. Its importance as a public offering of an original championship ring for the elite player on a World Series team is with few equals. Incredible championship piece from one of the greatest batsman in Major League Baseball history: NM
