Description:Rare Rock Island "Independents" football souvenir pennant c.1910-20. Highly obscure early pennant as issued with relation to one of the first American professional football teams formed in the Rock Island, IL area in 1907. The Independents joined the fledgling NFL in 1920 and later the AFL in 1926 before folding in 1927. Led by Walter Flanigan who was one of the attendees of the famed meeting which formed the APFA on September 17, 1920 which in 1922 became the NFL. Two piece maroon and black pennant with embossed melon style football at left end having applied team name lettering across the front. 35" long retaining its original tassles with soem typical age/handling wear including some tack holes at tip area.
