Striking crystal award with brass accoutrements and inset pewter medallion depicting legendary Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt. "Gale Sayers 2004" placard affixed to the black onyx base. Presented to Sayers in commemoration of his lifetime service to the game of football. Influential owner Lamar Hunt once highly coveted Sayers and in fact attempted to lure him to the Chiefs in the fledgling AFL league. Sayers remarked,"I signed a four-year contract with the Bears for $25,000 a year," Sayers said. "I thought (Hunt) would give me something better. He offered $27,500.
