Lot Number: 204

Description: Incredible Gene "Big Daddy" Lipscomb Baltimore Colts professional model jersey with 1958 "Greatest Game Ever Played" attribution. White dureen jersey with blue shoulder stripe accents has player number "76" on front, back, and sleeves. On the front tail is a wash tag which remains stitched on only at the right side along with vestiges of the original manufacturers tag. Outstanding usage wear can be found throughout with numerous, and in some cases larger than normal, team repairs. Included handwritten letter from Hall of Fame team mate Lenny Moore reads in part, "This jersey was given to me for my collection following our Championship in New York by my best friend Big Daddy Lipscomb in 1958. It has been one of my prized possessions ever since. Sincerely Lenny Moore." Drafted into the Marines, Lipscomb played basketball and football while stationed at Camp Pendleton catching the eye of the Los Angeles Rams. He joined the team upon his discharge in 1953 and was traded to the Colts in 1956. Under Coach Weeb Ewbank he evolved into Baltimore's top tackler and played a key role on both the 1958 and 59 Championship teams earning Pro-Bowl selections in each of those seasons. An exceptional representation with unparalled provenance and a compelling attribution to what is perhaps the most storied professional football game ever played. Includes auction LOA from JSA (autograph), letter of provenance from teammate Lenny Moore, and LOA from Hunt Auctions (jersey): EX
