Lot Number: 179

Description: Significant 1911 Philadelphia Athletics World Champions pendant presented to Bris Lord. Striking circular charm with garland ringed edge has "World's Champions 1911" lettered on. A stone at center is set within baseball field dÄcor. "Philadelphia Athletics" team name is engraved on the back along with player name, "Briscoe Lord." The medal displays a hint of light wear which is largely mentioned for accuracy. One of the more appealing designs which pre-dates the awarding of Championship rings and an extraordinary rarity with a scant few examples to have entered the market. After capturing their first World Series Championship in 1910 the Athletics repeated again in 1911 lead by their fabled "$100,000 Infield." Although the team counted four future Hall of Famers amongst their ranks, Legendary Manager Connie Mack is said to have acknowledged that it was the signing of Bris Lord in 1910 that pushed them from perennial Pennant winners to World Series Champions. Includes letter of provenance from the Lord Family: EX/MT
