Lot Number: 100

Description: Significant 1944 Green Bay Packers World Championship team autographed football. Official Thorp Sporting Goods "The Duke" model ball with NFL Commissioner Elmer Layden stampings signed by members of the Packers team to include Curly Lambeau, Don Hutson, Baby Ray, Tony Canadeo, Joe Laws, Roy Salter, and Larry Craig among others. Stenciled at one end of the ball in period black ink, "Green Bay Packers Five Times World's Football Champions". On adjacent end of the ball is inscribed, "Green Bay Shrine Club 1944". The ball also features several signatures from individuals whom we believe to have been dignitaries with the Shrine Club. Very fine condition with the ball exhibiting light to moderate wear and is slightly deflated. Signatures range from 5 to 9 out of 10 with the majority remaining quite bold but in some cases are difficult to read given the texture of the ball. The Packers franchise was the gold standard for the formative years of the NFL with the offered ball being one of only a scant few surviving examples of quality. Additionally, it is highly uncommon to encounter any NFL team signed football from the 1940s era let alone a specimen from the leading team of the league. Includes auction LOA from JSA: Ball: EX, Signatures: Range VG/EX-NM
