Lot Number: 591

Description: August 19, 1951 Eddie Gaedel game (St. Louis Browns vs. Detroit Tigers) scorecard. Exceedingly rare original scorecard issued for August 19, 1951 game played between the St. Louis Browns and Detroit Tigers at Sportsman's Park. In one of baseball history's most storied moments master showman Bill Veeck sent 3' 7" tall Eddie Gaedel to bat making him the only man with dwarfism ever to make a Major League plate appearance. Wearing the uniform number "1/8" he took four pitches to walk before being replaced with a pinch runner. Substantive period material of relation to that day is seldom offered with no more than a handful of scorecards having surfaced. The offered example displays mild soiling throughout with scattered wear to include light to moderate vertical fold at center and some fraying at corners/edges and a few other places. Points at each of the four corners when opened are missing. Currently displayed in double sided glass frame (measuring 16"x18" overall). Includes a desirable period 8"x10" press photograph of the at bat which has original paper caption and numerous production/date stampings on back. The first scorecard we have offered in over (20) years and one of only a few period printings of this particular image: Scorecard GD-VG, Photograph EX
