Lot Number: 296

Description: Scarce Roberto "Momen" Clemente professional model baseball bat c.1957-1960. Louisville Slugger 125 model bat measures 35" long and weighs 32.6oz. Bat shows tremendous use with characteristics to include ball marks, stitching impressions, rack marks, and cleat marks. Model #U1 stamped on knob end along with vintage "21" written in red marker. This particular example is truly exceptional with regard to visual appearance and degree of use remaining in superb original condition. Rare and desirable "Momen Clemente" facsimile signature stamping on the barrel end as seen on Clemente's early career era game bats. It is widely recognized that this nickname of "Momen" was derived from the Spanish word "momenito" which meant to "wait a second" and was used frequently by Clemente as a youth. After the 1960 season Clemente switched his bat stampings to the traditional "Roberto" first name variant. The earlier "Momen" stamped bats are markedly rare and equally desirable dating to the earlier portion of his playing career. Special mention must be made regarding the condition and rarity of the "Momen" stamping format coupled with the unimpeachable provenance having originated from teammate and Hall of Fame member Bill Mazeroski's personal collection. Based on the aforementioned we feel confident in rating the offered bat among the very finest Roberto Clemente game bats extant. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: EX
