Lot Number: 240

Description: Rare Bill Mazeroski professional model fielder's glove with apparent photo match c.1963. Wilson model glove as worn by Mazeroski showing outstanding use as characteristic of the scant few gloves used by him during his playing career. Wilson manufacturer's label remains affixed to the glove backstrapping with "9" written in black ink on back of glove. Overall evident use is substantive with glove remaining in fine original unrestored condition. Missing a portion of the lacings at the bottom of the heel area. Amazingly, within the personal scrapbooks of Bill Mazeroski was found an article from June 4, 1963 the content of which related to the condition and related use of Mazeroski's gloves. "It smells like Mazeroski's glove." became a favorite quote of his Pirates' teammates when referencing a matter of foul odors as noted in the article. The article also pictures a comparison between Bill's glove and a new example to illustrate the heavy use. Based on comparisons between the glove pictured in the photographs and the offered glove we can ascertain that they are one in the same. Most notably a small tear to the back of the pocket area which is actually referenced and shown in the news photographs having a small black arrow denoting same. As corroborated by Bill Mazeroski himself it was widely know that he used only a handful of gloves during his Major League career with the offered example being one of only five total that are confirmed to have originated from Bill's personal collection. One of the finest Hall of Fame player model game gloves we have offered with unique significance to the included period photo documentation. The glove is currently not autographed by Bill Mazeroski but will be included if the winning bidder desires as much. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions: VG
