Lot Number: 174

Description: Fine Bill Mazeroski 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates professional model home uniform. Original home knit uniform as worn by Bill Mazeroski during the final season of his illustrious Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jersey retains its original "Pirates" team name across the front with #9 on both front and back. Rawlings tagging affixed to the interior tail along with "Set 2 #8P 1972" flag tag. The jersey shows strong evident use including several small team repairs to the tail area in addition to appropriate 'puckering' to the lettering and numerals. Matching pants retain Rawlings tagging inside the waistband with period marker numeral(s) that appear to be #9 written twice with one crossed out. Pants exhibit moderate use. Also included are the original Pirates stirrup socks each having "9" chain stitched at the top with Rawlings tagging on the interior. This particular example is believed to be the final Major League uniform as worn by Bill Mazeroski during game play dating to his final season as a player in 1972. Additionally, the left sleeve of the jersey exhibits vestiges of the Roberto Clemente memorial patch which was worn in 1973. This indicates that the uniform was also worn by Mazeroski during his brief stint as a Pirates coach in 1973 and matches a photograph taken as such which is included with the lot. Notably rare and desirable Bill Mazeroski game uniform with impeccable provenance. The uniform is currently not autographed by Bill Mazeroski but will be included if the winning bidder desires as much. Includes LOA from Hunt Auctions and several period photos including one example picturing Mazeroski wearing the offered jersey: EX
