Lot Number: 791

Description: 1939 Leo Durocher Brooklyn Dodgers professional model home uniform (MEARS A8). Home jersey and pants as issued to Hall of Famer Leo Durocher for use during his first season at the helm of the Brooklyn Dodgers. Durocher had entered the League as a player in 1925 with the Yankees, spent time in Cincinnati and St. Louis (then a key member of the famed "Gas House Gang"), and ultimately joined the Dodgers in 1938. He remained a rostered player the following year and also took over managerial duties; a role in which he would flourish into one of the most noted in the history of the game. Desirable uniform remains in a magnificent, almost never encountered, state of preservation, the result of limited usage wear. Cream colored zipper front jersey with "Dodgers" team name lettered across the front in scripted logo font has player number "2" on back. "L.Durocher" has been chain stitched directly into the collar with "Spalding" manufacturer's tag below. Adjacent are size "42" and "Dry Clean Only" flag tags. Year "39" identifier is chain stitched into the tail. Matching pants have similar "Spalding" and "Dry Clean Only" tagging with the size noted as "40." Detailed MEARS paperwork concludes with an overall grade of A8 (as relates to the jersey) with note to absence of Centennial patch which typically appeared on 1939 jerseys. Letter states that at least one photograph of Durocher was found with no patch visible. Includes LOAs from Hunt Auctions and MEARS: EX/MT-NM
