Lot Number: 189

Description: Lot of (2) Warren Giles autographed letters. Pair of typewritten letters on National League stationery dated 1953 and 1962, respectively. The 1953 letter is written in thanks for Warren's contributions to the NL victory over the AL in the 1953 MLB All-Star game. Signed by Giles in black fountain pen along with small notation at bottom noting his appreciation: EX. The 1962 letter includes some fascinating content with regard to a refund for a $50 fine that had been assessed to Warren by an NL umpire. Giles notes that he believes this to be the first such refund of his tenure. Signed in black ink at the bottom with interesting handwritten note, "It will be much better for everyone if nothing is said about this to anyone-just between us." The refund was granted based on a rule interpretation along with Warren's previous "wonderful record and cooperative conduct with umpires over the years.": EX. The lot includes auction LOA from JSA and a Warren Spahn autographed publication photo.
