Description: Rare Spalding football helmet c.1901. Uncommon leather flat top style helmet of a very high quality construction exhibiting heavy evident use apparently by several players as their names and dates of use (1901 and 1904) are incised on a side panel. Spalding manufacturer stampings are found at top of either ear flap. Period brown elastic chin strap may be a period replacement.
