Lot Number: 383

Description: Unique John F. Kennedy autographed "Under Secretary of Baseball" Presidential Appointment. Hand calligraphed presentational document on parchment bearing raised Presidential Seal at top in gold reading, "To All Those Present, Greetings, On the occasion of his fiftieth birthday, I hereby appoint David Powers Under Secretary of Baseball White House Division." Demonstrating the close relationship the two shared, and in a moment of uncommon levity for a sitting President, it continues "For keeping accurate score, calculating both outcome and bets, keeping careful statistics on voting as a side-line, this appointment hereby authorizes the Under Secretary for Baseball to represent me in all matters dealing with my personal attendance at games and my protection from high flies as well as fast grounders." Signed at lower right "John F. Kennedy" in black fountain pen rating 8/9 out of 10. Measures 11"x14" and remains housed in what appears to be the original leather finish blue matting. Touch of age toning, otherwise well preserved. One of the most interesting pieces we have handled with regard to baseball and the Presidency. Includes letter of provenance from Powers family and auction LOA from JSA: EX/MT-NM
