Description: Fine Roberto Clemente professional model Pittsburgh Pirates hat c.1970-1972. Desirable Pirates hat in classic gold color has black brim and embroidered "P" logo. "New Era" label on interior band with "Pro Model" designation printed on by the manufacturer. Player number "21" written on underside of brim in the period, with font style matching numerous other documented examples. Exceptional usage wear is evident throughout with sweat staining to interior band and very slight bend in no longer pliable brim. An additional small flag tag on inside is present but due to wear is no longer readable. The offered hat was originally obtained by the consignor from Clemente after a game and will be accompanied by a letter of provenance as such. Very fine example dating to the era in which Clemente was firmly established as one of the great all around players of his time and lead the Pirates to a World Series victory in 1971.
