Description: Willie Mays professional model baseball bat c.1958-1960 with exceptional provenance. Adirondack 302 model baseball bat with "Willie Mays" burned into barrel end measures 35" long and weights 32oz. Model number "M63A" stamped in knob end. Evident usage wear throughout with deeply embedded ball transfer and stitch marks, and several rack marks. Mild grain separation to barrel which has been signed in black marker rating 9 out of 10. Includes letter of provenance from gentleman who acquired the bat while a batboy with the 1958-59 Los Angeles Dodgers. It was the era just after the Giants had made the move from East Coast to West and Mays was at the height of his career. Settling into Los Angeles, Mays blossomed finding himself in contention for a National League batting title with a career high .347 in 1958. He carried along on a string of (10) consecutive Gold Glove seasons throughout the period and made his usual perennial All-Star Game appearances. Widely considered among the top players of All-Time, Mays game bats are highly desirable with any 1950s examples being notably scarce.
