Lot Number: 526

Description: Rare 1912 New York Giants World Series press pin. Desirable original pin marks only the second year in which the press was offered the courtesy of a designation which allowed them easier access in order to provide coverage of the World Series. Giants great Christy Mathewson, under Manager John McGraw, lead his team to the bitter end with the Red Sox winning in an oddly needed 8th game; the 7th was called a tie when it got to dark to play. Blue enameled upper bar lettered "Press" retains original pin backing. Center ribbon portion slightly discolored from age has scattered blemishes, none of which significantly affected the gold "World Series, Brush Stadium, Polo Grounds, New York Giants" lettering. Lower medallion portion with batter and catcher in relief reads "New York Giants vs. Boston Red Sox" at upper border. Marked "The Whitehead & Hoag Co." on back. Minor scattered tarnish to metal portions: EX
